That is weird about Pearl. Thank you, Mike.

I know he had a major surgery a couple of months ago - he wrote me a heads up about it - but he came out of that fine.

Also, going through old emails, Eric Payne (Xetuoh) came up. Man, his death hurt.

Who didn't see this coming?

FALCONS’ CALVIN RIDLEY SUSPENDED THROUGH AT LEAST THE 2022 SEASON FOR BETTING ON NFL GAMES IN 2021 SEASON

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today suspended Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons indefinitely through at least the conclusion of the 2022 season for betting on NFL games in the 2021 season. The activity took place during a five-day period in late November 2021 while Ridley was not with the team and was away from the club's facility on the non-football illness list.

A league investigation uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way.  Nor was there evidence suggesting any awareness by coaches, staff, teammates, or other players of his betting activity.

@Scott: That's always the game with this team. I still don't think he gets traded before the draft, and I don't think we'll get that much in return, either. It's a matter of how many games he's suspended, not if.

Of course, the whole question is whether getting any existing player is a net bonus or a net loss. I can't imagine getting Drew Lock does anything for the Seahawks and serves to lighten the cap burden on the Broncos if even just a little. It's one of those deals where the haul looks huge (and is for a quarterback on the wrong side of 30) but I'm not sure if any of those guys is really anything that would blow my skirt up.

Yeah, I thought of that. Interestingly enough, if you were Seattle I suppose you could turn around and just give that package right back to Houston for Watson and you essentially break even with a younger version of Wilson. Then again, Watson''s grand jury is coming on Friday. I'm not a legal expert and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I can't imagine Friday is going to be a good day for him and Hardin. He is also slated to give his deposition that day.

So, I saw what I thought were some interesting comments on my Twitter feed this morning by a couple of accounts I respect.

Basically, it came down to Houston football fans have always been far too negative, and that we needed to be more optimistic when talking about the Texans. This is especially true because of all the hope Hamilton and Caserio bring to the table, much less guys like Mills.

One thing I've long thought, generally speaking, about the Texans fan base is that it tends to embrace mediocrity, especially white mediocrity. One of the accounts in that discussion used to have a tag of "Former BOB apologist" or something like that, and I don't think anything fits my embrace of mediocrity thought better than BOB. I mean, we had an entire cult leave the comments because we didn't overly praise that golden idol.

I get that people want to feel optimistic. Hope is good! Hamilton wasn't great in IND, Caserio has no track record, and Mills = Keenum. Are these supposed to be building blocks of hope? Am I crazy? Am I too realistic about life, the world, and everything to get excited about this team? Is fandom that important?

Just rambling this morning. Y'all have any thoughts?

We've entered a world where fandom runs the show, G. From politics to products to personalities (Rogan, etc.) to sports. It's more important for many to be loyal to a brand than it is to understand how things rationally work. It's actually one of the things I'm most uncomfortable with about my own standing -- I don't want anyone to take everything I say for granted as right.

I've personally just stayed away from all the excited people since the verdict went down because I understand anything I say will piss people off. Silence is better.

I’m new around here, but my general sense is that the typical fan brain is binary in nature. It cannot move beyond ultimate failure or ultimate success. Take the Harden era Rockets. They got to what, three WCFs against perhaps the best team of our generation? However, that was a failure because it didn’t produce a title. So, when someone characterizes a BOB or Lovie (or Hamilton) as average then the binary sports mind must convert that into either success or failure. So, apologists spin like crazy to paint it as anything but average. The negative crowd trashes it and scoffs. There is a third path. Average is a thing and it is neither good nor bad. You can acknowledge that Mills is not terrible and not great either. You can do the same with Lovie, Hamilton, and Caserio. It’s all about shades of Gray. Let’s embrace the in between world.

Not the Niners, actually.

I wonder if the Seahawks aren’t interested in Deshaun, or he’s not interested in them?
I highly doubt he will eliminate any team based on cold weather as he’s allegedly meeting with the Browns.

If this clown doesn’t give Nick at LEAST three teams to pit against each other, sign me up for 17 more inactive Watson games. I really don’t care anymore, and it’s not like they have a chance at anything this season.

I would honestly probably rather have him inactive than trade him, but I know that's an extreme position and "not how football works" and so on.

I semi agree. They can literally hold him hostage. However I think Nick is the only one in the franchise who wants this to be over. I do not think anything will happen this week. He needs probably two more weeks to formalize a trade, unless he receives everything he wants.

Yeah, I saw the refutation about the Niners.

As for the Seahawks, I saw somewhere that Watson rejected them. Not sure why, they didn’t specify, just that he wasn’t interested in them. My guess is he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuild the level that the Seahawks are about to undergo.

CAR can give the best offer and I’m hoping he goes there. Sitting out a year to play for Matt Rhule is hilarious.

I think Seattle is out because that roster got really bad really quickly.

Well, I think ideally as long as he’s willing to go with everyone he meets with then they can leverage the best package. I think this whole circus needs to end and the sooner the better.

I can't understand why the Texans would get that as a favor out of this, but yes, definitely hoping for it to turn out that way. He already picked Miami alone last time.

Getting the 4-13 gang back together just doesn't seem like a productive route, you know. I mean, I realize we will add some draft picks, but we aren't even trying to upgrade.

But don't say this outloud on Twitter!

Lmao
Not enough has been made over how awful the Cann signing was

I have to leave to for a couple of hours. Can someone take the Rams pass rusher news, and the Brown news?

Oh, I do like the Okoronkwo signing. I've liked the kid in the snaps I've seen.

All the contracts are two year deals. I’m not a capologist but it seems like they are essentially punting to 2023. It’s almost if they are tanking for one of those QBs. If you assume extra picks next year too it’s not a horrible strategy.
