Hello Boxsters,
Winter made an early appearance in my neck of the woods.
We got our first inch of snow on Friday.
While we were on the low side of that storm just a little South they got 6-8 inches!
It is Monday and time for a new Free Download for your enjoyment.
This weeks art comes from the palette of John Amendola, and was featured on the 1985, Williams Brothers release of their 1/32 scale, Granville Brothers Gee Bee Z racer kit.
Williams Brothers was a long time staple in the modelling community.
They went into business shortly after WWII and were well known for their great catalog of accessories for large models. usually RC.
They made wheels, machine guns, motors and all sorts of detailing add-ons for model aircraft and cars.
Around 1973 they jumped into the plastic kit market with a nice selection of models that had long been ignored by the mainstream kit makers.
The Granville Gee Bee model Z was the first of the Gee Bee Sportster racers.
It won the 1931 Thompson Trophy but had a fatal crash shortly afterward and was destroyed.
The next version was the better known R1 version flown by Jimmy Doolittle.
I selected a handful of Gee Bee Z pics for you.
All the images are 1280 pixels.

I bought one of these in 74-75. My first Wms Bros kit. It was followed in 1976 by C-46 as soon as it hit the market. I was warned away from their kits by some fellow modelers, PIA kits. The GB wasn't too bad, but it is also relatively small and simple. I often found locator pins to be problematic, so the lack of them didn't bother me to much. Due to the size and complexity of the C-46, I hesitated, but in the end, it was a case of "ain't nobody else ever gonna make one!" Well, it took 45 years to prove me wrong.....

The box art on all the Williams Bros. kits impressed me a lot though
I never bought one of their kits though. The Gee-Bee Racer I did build.
Another kit maker, I forget which one. Was Long ago, a Life far away.
A related Gee-Bee aircraft was flown by a Mexican pilot and his plane
experienced some issues flying over an area called The Zone of Silence
down in Mexico. There is a page on his Gee-Bee plane on Wikipedia.
Best Holiday Wishes! to you Jean and all the gang on here.
