Hey all,
After 15? 17? 20? years (help me with actual number here, Jim?) together as an informal group of incredibly cool, friendly, and passionate footballers, I am hereby proposing that we formalize ourselves as a proper club!
From my experience as a founding member of NYC’s Chinatown Soccer Club (est. 2001), club status would allow us to strengthen our bond even more, give us more visibility and recognition in the community, and open the door to fun new opportunities. Not to mention, lots of great swag.
My proposed name for the club…
East Boulder Rec Center Football Club
Which would be more commonly known as…
EBRC FC
I believe this name makes perfect sense because (correct me if I’m wrong here, Jim!) this is where the group’s very first pick up games were played and have been played ever since. I also kinda love the sing-songy nature of the shortened name :).
An alternative name I’ve toyed with (as some already know) is…
People’s Republic of Boulder Football Club
Which would be more commonly known as…
PRB FC
Obviously that one is a little more generic, but a lot more fun.
So, what does becoming a club entail? For starters, a visual identity… meaning a logo/shield, color palate, and a few other design elements to be used wherever needed. Although design isn’t my first language I’m actually pretty decent at it and would be happy to take it on. That said, if there are any true designers in the group that I’m not aware of, please raise your hand!
Creating an Instagram/Facebook profile would be another first step. Here is CSC’s, as well as a few of our sister clubs’…

Having a social media presence is just a fun way to document our games, promote/celebrate any club or individual happenings/events, and give Boulder yet one more reason to be known around the globe ;).
In terms of the general club organization, we could make it as formal or informal as we like. With CSC, it has always been very informal. We’ve never had any club rules or bylaws or annual dues. We did have a general fund that people could contribute to on an individual basis, which would go toward things like printing stickers and t-shirts or buying new pennies.
Beyond a name/identity, social media presence, and plenty of cool swag, other club aspects might include playing in tournaments, hosting kickarounds, getting together for watch parties/attending big matches, volunteering with local non profits, etc.
Anyway, I just wanted to throw this out there to y’all. There is clearly nothing wrong with continuing to do what we do without changing a thing (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!), but i personally think formalizing things as club would be a fun way to elevate our already-amazing experience even more.
Please share your thoughts :)
