When BOTS generates a 997 back acknowledging an X12 message, if the message does not comply to the grammars, does it send a 997 back with a Rejection along with the details?

Also, if an incoming interchange has multiple transactions, but only a few have compliance issues - does BOTS process the good transactions and send 997 rejects only for the transactions that do not comply with the X12 grammar?

for a lot of errors: yes.
but not for all errors (fatal errors).

also this depends upon the type of error.
as long as the errors are non-fatal errors it this is true.
if the whole file gets rejected because of a fatal error it does not.

Thanks henk-jan,
I have set up an X12 211 to CSV translation. It works like charm when I send an interchange with multiple 211 transactions. I removed a mandatory element from one of the transactions (first one), and sent the file in - it failed and sent a 997 reject for all the transactions.

Is there any way, I can split individual transactions and process the ones that are X12 compliant and send 997 reject only for the transactions that are non-compliant?

no, but you could change the grammar if needed.

What is considered a "fatal error"?

I updated the 850 Grammar to require that PO107 sent.  If one transaction is missing PO107 is that considered a fatal error that will cause all other transaction in the group reject (even if all those other transactions do have the PO107)? If so, has anyone created a fix or workaround?

i often changed the grammar to hace PO107 conditional. Think this is probably the most frequent change i make in X12 grammars.

We don't want the data to enter the system if the item number is not present.  I am testing that the 997 will show rejected just for the one transaction, while the other ones show successful.

if item number is mandatory in the inhouse file, that order will fail.
that has the advantage that the whole interchange is errored iut.

One ISA\GS interchange can have multiple ST transactions. We don't want the whole interchange to fail. ST transactions/orders with missing item numbers should fail and create a 997 letting the trading partner know that the one particular transactions/order was unable to be processed.
