Hello!
I'm starting to play around with Bonsai in order to do behavior tracking.
I'm testing on one Logitech webcam and:
1) when using module Video - VideoCaptureDevice, it recognizes the camera but I get no image whatsoever;
2) when using the module Vision - CameraCapture, it doesn't recognize the camera.

Tested other cameras and same thing happened.

Any idea what the problem might be?
Thanks!

Hi both!
Under Bonsai->Tools->ManagedPackages
and them under InstalledPackages
can you check if you have the following packages installed:
Bonsai Design Library
Bonsai DSP Design Library
Bonsai Video Design Library
Bonsai Vision Design Library

If you don't have install them and try.

It can also be lacking a microsoft library.
To install bonsai did you use the ".exe" bonsai installer or did you use the ."zip" bonsai file?
can you try to reinstall bonsai using the ".exe"

hope this helps
Joao

Hello!
I did miss Vision Design package. Module Video - VideoCaptureDevice started working for me after. CameraCapture doesn't work though.
Thanks!

Sometimes if you have other camera drivers installed in the computer, the index in CameraCapture node may not be 0, you may have to change it to 1 or 2.

Hello hello,
I'm coming back to this as now I am trying with different cameras. VideoCapture Device recognizes the different cameras in the Index but when I try the visualizer I just get a white screen.
I can use the cameras with a different software, like Eyeline video surveillance for example.
Any idea what the issue could be? Drivers?
All the best,
Eliana

Hi Eliane,

Yes, this could be an issue with drivers, for example if the cameras do not support DirectShow. Although if they show in the dropbox they usually will work. Sometimes changing the Format property too might help, as it might have impacts on the requested bandwidth.

Hi Eliana,

It really depends on the camera model you are using, but if this is a possibility it might be easier to just switch cameras, yes.

Hello Gonçalo,
Is there any solution for this or should we just acquire new cameras?

Changing the format didn't work. Switching cameras is not the ideal solution, but can be one hypothesis. Can you think of any other thing I could try?
We normally use an usbtv007 to connect our cameras to the computer. We have different camera models, but all connected through these usb sticks. Could it be that the issue comes from there, as I tried different cameras and none of them works. The only one I can manage to use is a webcam.

Hi Eliana,

Unfortunately I don't have experience with this specific board. Do you know if you can open it in VirtualDub?

Hello Gonçalo,
Same thing, the software detects but it doesn't display anything.

Hello again,
FYI, if other people encounter the same issue, the problem was that I had another software (Eyeline in this case, but I think it can happen with any other cam visualization software) that was using the cameras in the background, even if it was not running. Unistalling or just removing the cameras from it works.
Best,
Eliana
