Hi,

I'm trying to set up bonsai to integrate animal tracking with my OpenEphys single unit recording of place cells in mice.
I have a Prosilica FireWire camera which I can use with the Allied Vision FirePackage driver, but I don't know if it will be possible to get this to send video to bonsai?
Alternatively I was looking at buying this camera: Logitech Ultra Wide Angle HD Webcam Does anyone know if this would work with bonsai?
Or do you have any recommendations of the best camera to use for this?

Thanks very much,
Tizzy

Hi Tizzy and welcome to the forums!

The Logitech Webcam should work, although I haven't tried it myself. In general webcams are always supported by the standard generic drivers.

About the Prosilica FireWire camera, I have an old package for Bonsai supporting interfacing with the FirePackage driver. However, it is quite possible that it doesn't work anymore. Bear in mind that this is a 32-bit only package, so you should run it with Bonsai 32-bit (i.e. not Bonsai (x64)).

To install custom packages, check here.

If the source doesn't show up, then most likely it doesn't really work anymore with the new drivers.

Another option in that case is to try and install their DirectShow drivers, if they have it. Sometimes this option appears as a checkbox when installing FirePackage. After that, the camera should appear listed in the VideoCaptureDevice source (in the Bonsai.Video package).

Hope this helps.

Hi Tizzy,

It would be interesting to know the error in more detail. I am attaching a modified version of the fire package which should give a more detailed error message that will help me understand exactly which part of the process failed.

Can you upgrade the package to this version and run it one last time so we can have an idea of what happened? Also, can you tell me which version of the FirePackage driver you are using?

Thanks (I am redirecting this again to the forums as other users may find this updated package useful).

Sorry, I didn't notice the attachment. I installed the package which gave the source FireWrapCamera, but when I run it, it gives the error "FirePackage exception".

Thanks very much for your help,
Tizzy

Hi Tizzy,

Sorry, I probably didn’t make it clear in the last email. The package was actually attached to the post, and you can try to install it by going through the steps in the wiki post I linked to.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Gonçalo

Thanks very much for your help. I can't find the FirePackage to Bonsai package. What is it called? Should it just be in the bonsai package manager?

I've tried downloading the DirectStream package from Allied Vision but it says it doesn't support Prosilica cameras.

It sounds like I might need to give up on the prosilica camera and just go for a webcam.

Thanks,

Tizzy

It gives a Runtime Error
"Error initializing control center module."
Thanks very much for your help,
Tizzy

Thanks, it looks like it failed in the very first step of connecting the module to the driver.

Can you tell me the exact version of the FirePackage drivers you are using? This may be simply a problem of version mismatch/compatibility.

Hmmm, it seems like I can't find the download for FirePackage in the Allied Vision website anymore. Do you know if your camera is compatible with the latest Vimba SDK? This is apparently the driver framework that AVT is using in all their cameras now.

If your camera is compatible, you should be able to use the Bonsai - Allied Vision package that was developed by Jordan Guerguiev a couple of months ago which provides Bonsai support for all AVT Vimba cameras.

Alternatively, if you know where I can find the installer for your FirePackage version, let me know and I can try and update the package for compatibility.

Thanks very much

Ok, I have updated the package to use FireWrap.Net version 1.3.0.

Can you try upgrading to the attached package file?
