Hello Dimers,

Long, long time no talk. My Dime (73 two-door) has pretty much been gathering dust since my first kid showed up 24.5 years ago.

After sitting unused in my garage in Saugus, CA for the last 10 years, I got it running with help from the guys at Gravity Garage in Valencia. The only thing left is to replace the heater hose that is leaking. This is the shorter/lower of the two hoses that run from the engine to the firewall.

The guys at Gravity couldn't find a replacement. Anyone here know where I can get one?

Thanks In Advance,

Forbes Black
(Now living in Ventura, CA)

I see them on rockauto:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1972,510,1.6l+l4,1209989,cooling+system,radiator+hose,10068

I see them on e-bay.

I would be very surprised if a call to O’Reilly or NAPA or whatever would not get you what you need.

Sorry, I misread.  I was looking at radiator hoses.

Z car depot.

The S shaped one shows out of stock.

I've called them before.  They may know when it's coming in.

No worries, but you did have me confused for a minute. It's been years since I did any serious wrenching (my back is toast), so I've forgotten how to do most of this stuff.

I'm attaching a photo. It's the lower hose shown in the picture.

I see Z car depot is out of stock.

Are you sure it is the hose that failed?

The boss it connects to coming out of the block can sometimes rust to nothing.  I want to say I’ve seen corrosion kill the heater boss (es) through the firewall as well.

I might have a decent used one I can send you if you come up blank here.

Congratulations getting back to your car!  24.5 years is a long wait.  I bet your car is excited as you are!  Have a picture you can share?

Get ready to replace everything hydraulic!

I'm pretty sure it's the hose, but I'll check the bosses ASAP.

I'll post pics soon. I'm probably going to sell it to someone who will actually get some use out of it. Like I said, my back is trashed, and this is a car for someone with a healthy back.

Not the cleanest..... But, I did come across a 510 once, where the owner had used two brass barbed elbows and pieces of straight Heater hose to make his own version of the OEM hose.

Search online for a silicon hose datsun 510 heater / radiator. I recall seeing someone was making the set in china.

Thanks Dan. I'm seeing lots of radiator hoses when I do that search, but no heater hoses so far. I'll keep looking.

Has anyone made one from straight hose and a couple of metal elbows? That wouldn't be ideal, but it might work

Have you checked your local Nissan dealer? Web search part # B7021-A0800 suggests it's available For ~$34 from multiple online dealer's. I've used www.Nissanpartsdeal.com with good success in the past.

You  can do wonders with copper tubing. This to adapt  a 510 heater to an SR20.
But Ted suggested a Nissan part. That's the way to go

Yep, B7021-A0800 (the longer, upper hose) is available from various sources. Unfortunately, I need B7020-A0800 (the shorter, lower hose), which seems to have been discontinued.

But I appreciate the input very much! Keep those ideas coming.

Weird. The 510 parts manual at carpartsmanual.com shows B7021-A0800 item 46 in the diagram as the short z-shaped outlet hose. WTH?

Interesting. I was looking at a photo with both hoses. The B7020 label was closer to the shorter S-shaped hose, so made the assumption. Maybe my assumption was wrong. I'll do more research.

Thanks!

I concur with Ted on the part number.  B7021 should be the S /Z shaped hose.  It is still available from Nissan.  I have a set at home new in the bags, so I could double check tonight.

Late to the discussion, but what I have done is use a couple (or one depending)
Hose with 90deg bends and a piece of copper pipe. Works very well. Many vehicles use heater hoses with 90deg bends .

Rear Wheel Drive, the way God intended.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Thanks. I was looking at a few of those. Seems like a good solution.

I've done the 'cobble-together' assemblies often.  Many choices for buying a cabin heater hose with 90-dgree bends.  Some are long and 'wiggly' but have decent bends at both ends for fairly low cost.  Cut off the ends to fit and assemble as needed.
I would recommend PCV  or CPVC pipe rather than copper. No dielectric concerns and surface can be roughed heavily.  Copper pipe cannot be roughed up as much and tends to slip easily.  Part should be mostly hose with short pipe as 'nipple'.  Pre-made aluminum or steel nipples of correct diameter can also be found nowadays, which would be more stable.

Attach the picture, doofus....

The red circles are splices.  Glued together over copper tubing.  Been watertight for since 2006.

So…… What glue did you use on the hose splices?

Yeah... after I posted that I tried to remember what I used for adhesive.  I'm pretty sure I used Loctite Polyurethane.  I know it sticks well to rubber and copper... as well as most anything. I would rough up the surface of the copper pipe so the poly has some extra grip.

Google "Loctite PL S30"

Seal it up REALLY well, or the remainder of the tube will set up in about 2 weeks.

If it wasn't that, I don't remember.  I'm sure the Interwebs will have an answer.

Looks like the parts catalog is wrong, or something else is.  Here are the parts in the bags I received them.  Not sure if they are labeled correctly but I have to assume they are.  I ordered them together.

I apologize if anyone received the large files and these again.  Gmail told me it didn't send because the pictures were too large.  Hopefully it was telling the truth.  Here they are resized.

The hose that runs along the passenger side of the block may only be available in the “automatic transmission” version. I believe the standard form has been NLA for several years.

Update on the heater hose issue for future reference:

Bottom line - If you need B7020-A0800, you can order N7020-A0800 instead.

I couldn't find anyone who carries B7020-A0800, the hose that's listed as the correct part. But some of the sites said that B7020-A0800 "replaced" 27020-A0800, so I did a web search on that part number and found people selling them. I bought one off eBay. It fit perfectly and stopped the leak.

But I noticed that my dime was still leaking a very small amount of coolant. I searched for a few minutes and found the leak in the other heater hose, B7021-A0800. As others discovered, those are available. I ordered one from NissanPartsDeal.com. It should arrive just after Christmas. My recommendation is to replace both hoses if one develops a leak.

Cheers,

Forbes
