I need some choke cables for Carson's A14 Dual SU setup in his 410. Can Z-car stuff be shortened to fit, or is there some British car equivalent, or...?

Dave,
On shortening cables, just pull the cable out, cut the case to length, reinsert the cable and shorten it as needed.

I've used a Dremel tool with a small cutoff wheel to cut the casing. Make sure to debur the case ID.

Done this with throttle cables many times.

Dave,
TR6 cables might work...the longer NAS cable in the stiff wire the better as you could adjust for length. TR6s also used a braided wire cable in some years...my experience has been return springs were too weak to get full return of choke box. Zcar might work as well, no experience here...careful with some British parts vendors(Moss) tend to have cheaper less reliable product.

It looks like there are several options ranging from ebay to Moss Motors.

I googled “Dual Choke Cable”

Most appear to be about 20” length and are multi-strand cable.  Ideally you want the single wire type vs. cable.

Here’s a cool possibility from Amazon.

Yeah I did that too, didn't know if there was something generally used, or if simple Google results were sufficient.

I mean, I saw some John Deere stuff...

Dave,
I can't find the site I originally saw these on (I believe it was an ultralight parts site), but there are throttle cable splitters for bikes. These disassemble and can be easily shortened.

Link to a 2 carb universal cable. (I've seen them with up to 4 output cables). $40.95

Do you have anything to start with (i.e. could use a rebuild) or do you need the whole assembly?

Rebuilding stock units is tedious but worth it.

FWIW, braided cables, a'la motorcycle and/or throttle cables, work just fine with the correct combination of parts.  I've run t the braided cable assemblies on all my cars and never had problems.  The routes just need to be smooth and the cable housings well lubed.  The Teflon lined cycle parts work best.
