I am working on animating 2D charters in Blender for some short full dome star stories in the planetarium. (Turns out Blender is NOT the best tool for this... but it is much to late now.) This is a test of the emu's range of motion so I can make it's walk cycle...

And now the run cycle.

Solid. Are you using grease pencil animation? It's pretty challenging. If you need to do a lot of this kind of animation, it might be worth your time to switch to pin puppet animation with Adobe AfterEffects.

Keep up the good work.

No, that would have been much easier, I guess I was Googling the wrong tutorials. I wish I had learned about that earlier, it might have saved me a lot of time. I spent a lot of time watching videos of bird legs frame by frame and using my kitten as a model for how legs work. Since it is only going to be about 3 minutes of video total, I THOUGHT this would be easier than learning how to use Adobe Animate. I have Adobe AfterEffects and five more critters to rig and animate, so I think I will try that instead. I massively underestimated how hard it was to rig and animate.

I got the animation to be smoother by smoothing out the dope sheet curves in the Animation tab in Blender.

Character animation is a whole new animal. I hope you keep it up!

I've been doing animation with Blender for a few years now and character animation is one of the toughest.

You might look at some of the courses offered by Udemy. I've taken one that features basic character modeling, rigging, texturing and animation. It's made me a better animator (I hope to share some of that here soon).
