Frustrations Updating Quicksilver 1.6.1

MacUpdate said there is a new version, but when I downloaded, I didn't get a disk image, I got Quicksilver 1.6.1.qspkg.

I double-clicked, and it offered to install, but then complained that it was a bad package.

I googled for QuickServer, but got some unrelated company.

I checked 'about' QuickServer and saw the link to GitHub. So I logged into that, searched for QuickServer. Something to do with Apache!? But there was a link to qsapp.com, and it looked right.

So, I went to downloads, and on that page it said "The latest release for macOS 10.12 or later" and immediately below was a button: Download 1.6.1.

So I hit the button, but got exactly the same thing I got from MacUpdate, a 6.8 mb file called Quicksilver 1.6.1.qspkg which would not install because the package was corrupt.

I saw on the forum that it is 'strongly recommended' to install plugins from the preferences, so I went there, but saw no way to do so. I hit the plugins tab which says it is to find and install plugins, but no. In the 'all plugins' list, there is no Quicksilver 1.6.1 item.

In the very discreet little popup menu, I saw no way to install from a file on the disk. I did find the plug in folder, but the extensions are all different: qsplugin

So what's going on?

Ok, that whole interface was terrible, but I later discovered that in the Preferences, under the "Applications" item on the side bar, there is a 'check for updates' item, which will actually just DO the updating. So that was good.

Sorry about that. The update system seems to have treated it like a plug-in instead of an application update. You could have renamed the .qspkg to .dmg, but there’s no way to know that. Anyway, it should be fixed on the site now.

Checking the box to enable a plug-in also installs it if you don’t already have it, but that’s not what you would do for a new version of the application.
