Review of RAVpower file hub.
After waiting for a full fledged OTG support on iPad and then being disappointed with iOS 13 beta ( because it is apple, it will never give the full feature in one go), decided to buy a remote router.
First choice was hootoo, but went for RAV power as it has a 6700 mAh battery in it, which makes it a bit bulky but makes it proper mobile device and also acts as a power bank, which you don’t get with hootoo, you need a power source for the almost same price range ( hootoo fluctuates between 2800₹ to 3500₹, and this RAVpower cost me 3900₹, there is a hootoo model with inbuilt battery pack of 10,000 mAh which costs around 9000₹, but I already have a power bank so that was pointless).

The device is small and has a power button and battery indicator and wifi indicator on the front. A USB – A out port and RJ – 45 port on top, a media card slot on the bottom and a power in port of micro USB and a reset hole on the side. It’s not light but it isn’t heavy either.

The company markets it as a remote server for your travel needs.
- Like when you are in a hotel and the hotel only gives one device for wifi and one RJ-45 cable for a laptop ( which I have never noticed) then you can connect the cable to your device and have your own wifi network and connect multiple devices.
- Same for wi-fi networks, if you can only connect 1 or 2 devices per room, you can use it to create your own wifi network.
- You can connect your hard drive or pen drive or media card to the device and save / backup your vacation photos to free up the memory and create a back up.
-       It also supports DLNA.

I tried out the features mentioned by the company –
It was able to create it’s own wifi network after connecting to a wifi, but I can’t seem to make it work with VPN on. So that’s a bummer or I am missing something ( will figure it out).
On connecting it to internet via RJ-45 cable it wasn’t able to connect to the internet as it asked me to enter the ip and subnet and DNS of the router, tried doing static but even that didn’t work, maybe because of my router settings. But if that’s the case I don’t understand how this feature would be of any use, as I am pretty sure the front desk would either not tell you about their subnet and DNS or they might not know. But if connected via cable it can create a remote server too for your storage device ( I am pretty sure).
I connected my hard drive to it, switched it on, and it was magic. ( the main reason I purchased it) I was able to copy and paste stuff both ways on my key2. Was able to play videos directly from the hard drive without any buffering. I keep one 1080p version of avatar on my hard drive which I use to test the screen resolution of various devices like TV or tablet or something. And it played it effortlessly. Same with iPad, no problem at all. It’s default player is a bit under developed and under featured so some videos had problem even starting, so then I used VLC which asked if I would like to download or stream, you cam stream there too with no issues at all and download speed was around 20 MBps, which I think is not bad for a HDD. There was however issue with copying stuffs from iPad to the drive via the router.

Till now the only use of my laptop was to transfer media files or documents to my iPad, and for that I had to switch on my old laptop find my USB – A to lightning cable ( as I use USB – C to lightning now) and then start itunes and wait for it to open and then connect iPad and then wait for it to start syncing and then drag and drop the file and wait for that to copy and then eject iPad ( possibly wait for that too) and then shut down the laptop. Not anymore.

I think I have got it all covered, will add if I missed something. Or any updates.

Update : the device streams for almost 3.5 to 4 hours from HDD after full charge. But the most stupid thing is, it's input is 1A only, so even though I was charging it with 30W fast charger, it was still charging at 1A speed.

Not used, but I am assuming it would be useless as output is 1A and 5V .

I think you must know that HooToo makes both these brands. And where did you buy it from.

Sir, If my info is correct, they both have same parent company. But this brand seemed more sensible.

Bought it from Amazon. Flipkart hasn't even has it on their page.
