I destroyed my phone on accident and then found out that there was no way to install the Bkper widget for recording receipts on the replacement.  It was a critical tool that I used to keep track of expenses.  Any suggestions?

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for reaching out with this matter here in the community.

Some time ago we decided to move away from the native mobile apps (Android and iOS) and work towards progressive web apps (PWA) that will enable us to run one APP on all browsers, all sizes and all platforms. So while we are working on this both stores iTunes and Google Play caught up on us with their versions & updates, without options left we had to take the apps of the stores and that is why they are unavailable. Our apologies for this!

I don’t have an ETA for the mobile functionality to be restored, but we are working on this as we speak.

In the mean while I would like to suggest a work around that works with Google Forms. Since Google only allows workspace accounts to upload files through a Google Form, for this to work, you do need to be on a Google Workspace Account (domain). (form submitters can be outside of the domain and use any other email account or even be anonymous)

These are the steps to follow:

1 Create a Google Form that has some fields and add the possibility to upload a file.

2 Enable the Form to collect answers on a Google Sheet.

form link to sheet.png

3 Send the sheet to collaborators to inform their expense, reimbursement or compensation.

When a collaborator of your organization submits the form with a receipt for reimbursement the following happens:

- The file (receipt) uploaded through the form goes to a specific Google Drive Folder.

- The data from the form, together with a link to the file in your Google Drive goes to the Google Sheet.

4 Open the Sheet that collects the answers.

5 Unfreeze the first row of the collected data on the Sheet.

6 Open Bkper Add-on on the Sheet and record the new entries in Bkper so you have everything needly together.

Below the links to a working example:

The form (as a volunteer receives it)

The editable form (remember to make your own form, if not everyone can edit your edits on this public form)

The Google Sheet that collects the answers (remember to associate one with your own form)

The Google Drive Folder with the uploaded files (receipts)

The sample book that recorded the entries from the sheet (Remember this is public)

I have tested the form from the cellphone (Android) and it works properly, you can see the entry from peter with a picture directly from the cellphone camera.

So, if you have the Google Workspace Account and if having the file stored in Google Drive as a link on your transactions in your book is ok for you, than this is a solid work around while we work on this functionality for mobile phones.

Thanks,

Jacob

Hi Ryan,

We are currently working heavily on the first mobile web app version and expect to get the first version up and running later this week, or, at most, next week.

We let you know when it's ready for start testing, ok?

Cheers,
Mael

Thanks.  I am testing it out and it works which helps me out a ton.

Some feature requests.
- Can it remember the last book that was open?
- GPS coordinates when posting.
- Sort the transaction list by newest post on top.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the feedback.

Is there any specific reason to sort the transaction list by newest post on top? Can you give some more context to help us move forward?

Many thanks
Mael

I initially thought the app wasn't working until I realized that I needed to scroll to the bottom of the list to verify what I had just posted.

Also, can the dollar value be formatted like $1,000.00 instead of 1000.00000000.  Thanks for your help.

Hi Ryan,

We improved the UX to keep the scroll down while you use it, like Slack or Whatsapp, so you don't need to scroll to the bottom anymore.

We also store and redirect to latest book you used in the mobile, to skip the additional step of selecting the book everytime.

We also fixed the number format to 2 decimal places for now. The book format will be used in the future.

Location, upload and other features will also be added in near future, ok?

Let me know if that works better on your end.

Thanks!  The entry sorting makes sense now.

More things that I noticed
- You can post a blank entry.
- The date of a post 'mixes' with the description.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the feedback!

We just released a fix for the blank entry issue.

We also changed the layout to try to fix the date overlap on description.

Let me know if that works on your end

Much better, the updated interface is quite usable.  Just missing the ability to take a picture of a receipt and GPS to give a pop up of frequently visited places.  I'm sure that is coming in the future.  Thanks!

That's great to hear, Ryan!

Yes, we will be working very hard to improve the UX and add more features.

Working fully offline is our top priority right now. Picture and location will be next.

We will keep you posted.

Works great.  Any way to rotate the images?  Doesn't necessarily need to be done on the app but it would be nice on the web page.

Glad to know it's working on your end :-)

Thanks for the rotate suggestion. We will add to our backlog :-)

About the GPS coordinates, can you give more context/details on how this feature helps you? On a scale from 1 to 10, how the lack of this feature is impacting your work today?

I don't necessarily care about tracking GPS locations when something is posted (although it was neat).  Before it would guess the vendor by using GPS I assume?  Saved time when entering transactions instead of me having to type the entire name out.  I used to enter a dollar amount in one field and then touch the vendor that popped up.  End of the world?  No.  I'd give it a 7 because of the extra amount of time entering transactions when on the road.

Progress so far has been great though.  Thanks a lot!

Ryan,

I believe from your screen shots that in your case it is the following that you have to do.

- Open the Bkper App  in Chrome.
- Press the "three dot" icon in the upper right to open the menu.
- Select "Add to Home screen.
- Press the "Add" button in the popup.

The Bkper App should now be installed and available on your home screen.

Please let us know if this worked for you, okay?

Thanks, that worked.  I appreciate the help.

For anyone else that runs into this, there was no 'Add to Home screen' when using a different launcher.  I had to revert back to the default launcher to install the app.  Then I could go back to my preferred launcher and add it to the desktop.
