Hi all,

Have you been doing any disk imaging where you need a drive component (in our case, we are using a Greaseweazle) that requires external power to capture?

We have a Greaseweazle connected to a 5.25 floppy drive that is unable to capture disk images because of, what we think is, a power supply issue. Guidance for the Greaseweazle and other disk imaging groups have told us that we may need an external power supply, specifically:  "For a suitable drive power supply for 3.5- and 5.25-inch drives, search for "Molex power supply". These usually feature 5V and 12V supply at 2A, and a full-size Molex power connector; They connect directly to a 5.25" drive, or to a 3.5" drive via a Molex-to-floppy adapter cable" (Source)

We have considered
But we have seen some reviews where the power levels are inconsistent. Has anyone tried the Coolerguys adapter? Or have recommendations for a better product that has worked for you?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Meghan,

We've been using that Coolerguys power adapter (without the on/off switch) with our 3.5" floppy drives and Kryoflux for a couple of years now.

Good news I have solved this problem!  I got a 250W power supply with a built in Molex and berg adapter.  https://nixsys.com/in-win-350-watts-atx-12v-power-supply

Just wanted to reply to this thread to say THANK YOU to Patrick Burden. I had been using the paperclip trick as well, but I just ordered and received that toggle switch you shared, and it works like a CHARM. This will make our documentation so much easier, especially if we want to have students do this work somewhere down the line--I'll feel a lot better with them using a toggle switch as opposed to a janky paperclip. Thanks everyone!
