Unable to download Biodiverse on Mac

Hello all,

I'm a graduate student at the University of California, Riverside and as a part of my dissertation I am planning to conduct CANAPE analysis on Miridae (plant bugs) endemic to California. I'm trying to download Biodiverse on my Mac, however when I try to open it (after approving in my system settings) nothing will open at all. I have tried downloading previous versions and restarting my computer, but I can't seem to get it to work. I also tried downloading on a windows computer, but when I open the application a black screen pops up that I can't do anything in. 

Is anyone able to help me troubleshoot this issue?

Hello Sarah,

Which version of Biodiverse are you using?  And are you on a machine with an ARM or Intel chip?  


One possible reason for the lack of response is that the executable has to unpack itself the first time it is run.  This can take a few minutes and I suspect is why your Windows version has the black (Cmd) window.  Subsequent runs will be much faster.  

As for running CANAPE, I'd recommend using the latest dev releases as this plots the results and is generally faster than 4.3.  I pushed a new version yesterday for Windows and Mac-ARM machines.  This is pretty close to what will be the official version 5.

Just an update for the list as Sarah responded directly.

The first issue was that it was running on an Intel Mac.  It would be useful if the system were to raise an error in such cases but I'm not overly familiar with doing so on Macs.  Suggestions/contributions are welcome.  

The Windows issue was a case of needing to wait for it to unpack.  I have added a note to the dev release download page.  This can be added to later releases also.
