If you listen in redis, you can detect the event, and also see the username and internal meetingID. Then you execute some ruby or bash.
There are libraries that implement redis client for different programming languages, ruby works well since it is already installed, and a simple system service can be created to do this.
We have done something similar to enable the 9 button in freeswitch to raise and lower the hand from a dialin user.
