Hi everyone,

With more sites running BigBlueButton 2.2-beta, we found and fixed a few more bugs -- this time related to breakout rooms and sharing YouTube videos.

You can see the full release notes here

  https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/releases/tag/2.2-beta-23

We recommend anyone running an earlier version of BigBlueButton 2.2-beta to upgrade to this release.  To install (or upgrade to) BigBlueButton 2.2-beta-23, see

  http://docs.bigbluebutton.org/2.2/install.html

To try out this latest release, visit

   https://demo.bigbluebutton.org/

We have been steadily fixing any remaining issues reported by members of our community (thanks for all the reports!).   We appreciate reports on any issues that you find with this release as we work towards a release candidate.

Regards,... Fred

Hi Fred,

Thanks for the update!

I am not sure whether this was the case with previous updates, however I've noticed that this update did overwrite the TURN config file with the default values:
/usr/share/bbb-web/WEB-INF/classes/spring/turn-stun-servers.xml

We've configured a custom TURN server as outlined here:
https://docs.bigbluebutton.org/2.2/setup-turn-server.html

Kind regards,
Romeo

Hi Romeo,

You'll need to re-apply any changes to /usr/share/bbb-web/WEB-INF/classes/spring/turn-stun-servers.xml after an upgrade.

We recommend making a backups of any manual changes to configuration files (outside of using bbb-conf) and then re-applying them after you upgrade

After upgrade you should run

  sudo bbb-conf --seitp <hostname/IP>

Which handles updating all BigBlueButton configuration files with the hostname.

However, if you've made a custom change to a BigBlueButton configuration file, for example, to a FreeSWITCH or Kurento configuration file, you'll need to re-apply that change after upgrade.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your feedback, I will keep that in mind.  Actually I've never done sudo bbb-conf --seitp <hostname/IP> between all the beta updates, so I guess I was just lucky :-)  I will do so in the future.

Regarding the turn configuration, is there any chance you could add the TURN server and secret to bbb-conf?  E.g bbb-conf --turn <TURN hostname> and bbb-conf --turnsecret <TURN secret>

Of course, it's nothing major and more of a nice to have feature to simplify upgrades.

Have a nice weekend!

Kind regards,
Romeo

Hi Jossef,

Not in build-23.  The pull request is still open; you can expect it to merge in shortly.

Hi Fred

Just wondering if you have come across any issues with this version using coturn. I have just updated and there seems to be a really big delay in the echo test .. possibly a couple of seconds - but certainly more than one, which seems an eternity when you use it. It didn't happen with any of the recent upgrades (with version 12, 13 and from 19 onwards - I skipped 14-18).

It MIGHT or might not just be other network issues, because I had a similar experience with an early beta 2.2 (no idea which revision) that seemed to disappear with an upgrade - but I cannot be certain it was that or just coincidence as I didn't use the audio with that version as the delay made it all but impossible.

I'll try it again in a day or so and let you know if that persists.

Hi CH,

Please let us know if the difference persists.  You can try it against

for comparison.  I just tried a test on a number of BigBlueButton servers of different versions and they seemed to be giving the same time to clear the echo test.

Hi Fred, I updated to beta-23 but I still cannot watch recordings on Safari or iOS. I see that Patching playback updates for iOS #8195 was merged to master. Is it included in beta-23?

Do I need to process the recordings again or do something else?

Hi Alfonso,

> Do I need to process the recordings again or do something else?

Yes -- iOS only plays mp4 videos, so once you've made the change, the record and playback scripts should now create .mp4 files for any new recordings.

For existing recordings, rebuild them using the `bbb-record --rebuild <meetingID>` command, see
