Ipad and Big Blue Button

Hi,
        I've researched about this issue but couldn't find any definite answer. We have one of the latest BB (I don't know exactly ow to check which RC as when you input bbb-conf - v it tells you the version of each component but not the RC. I know it's not RC5 (how can I check).

we are having issues with Ipads, where they can use the mic but they can't hear. So the mic is active, the others can hear them, but they can't hear back. Not on the sound test, not on your test platform.
Last ipad we tried was iOS version 13.3. With safari.

It's starting to become a serious issue as a big percentage of users want to use their iPads.

If you say no to the sound test you get a message where you can test your sound and it works (although it says something like defaul), and the iPad does recognise the Mic. But when you use it it can only go one way. No sound is produced.

I'm sure we can't be the only ones having this problem... can anyone point me in the right direction to solve it?

Thanks for sharing this -- we are tracking this issue and have reports from others who are encountering the same problem.  See


The challenge with this issue is it's intermittent -- some can hear, some can not.  On your end, are you able to reproduce it yourself.  Can you add to the above issue your device, iOS version, and network connectivity (wireless or cellular).

Thanks Fred, added (I hope I did that correctly).
 Right now I have an employee who has such an issue and can do tests for me . So yes, I can reproduce it. 
In my case it's most iPads...and more as of late (so it happens with latest versions).
No return sound whatsoever. They can hear the user, user can't hear the rest.
As another person said, in the test if you say no , the Mic is recognised, the audio says "default", but the test works there can be played. However in the BB sound test you get no return sound.
Mic icon is red in the browser url box.
You can see the BB icon moving when you speak. It seems the speakers are getting no output.

That's the specific issue -- the affected device is transmitting audio, and other people in the session can hear audio, but the device (iPad or iPhone) isn't playing audio.

A quick test is to join a session with microphone and try muting yourself -- you should hear "you have been muted"/"you have been unmuted".

The reason the audio test is playing audio is that the browser itself is playing the audio, whereas when you join the echo test or live session, the audio is being received from the server.

Fred,
          I don't have the iPad right in front of me. I can talk to the user and have her bring it (next day I see her is Monday afternoon). When would it be best for you for tests?
I'd be glad to do them and try to solve this.

Hi, good news.
   I just tested it on an iPad 13.31 
iPad Pro (12.9 inch) 

where before it DIDN'T work and it worked like a charm
Great stuff, well done.
