BBB Recording limited time problem

Hello to everyone; 

I have this problem. I want to tell through the attached screenshot; 

Teachers fill in Join open date: and Join open date: when creating a meeting in sakai. Then they enter the live course and forget the screen after the lesson is finished :) In this case, hours of recording occurs on BBB. Meeting duration: I could not force entry. In fact, my goal is Meeting duration: 

I want each course to be 45 minutes by default even if it is not filled. I want him to count backwards from 45 minutes as soon as the class starts. If the teacher thinks that the lesson will take longer, it can enter a value of Meeting duration:

in short;

Is it possible to limit each meeting of bigbluebutton to 45 minutes? When the meeting starts, it will count down from 45min and the session will be closed automatically. Is it possible?

You can set the limit for all meetings on your server by modifying

# Default duration of the meeting in minutes.
# Current default is 0 (meeting doesn't end).
defaultMeetingDuration=0

You can also set it on a per-meeting basis by passing the '&duration=<min>' option on the 'create' API call, see

Can you check the log in 

  /var/log/nginx/bigbluebutton.access.log

for the 'create' command when you start the meeting in Sakai.  Do you see the '&duration=N' coming through?

Are you a developer?  Do you have the skills to scan the code around the storage and retrieval of the duration for the meeting (as see in the UI) and the creation of the 'create' request (which should be pulling this duration parameter from the meeting state).

But I can't see the 45min "Meeting duration" that I set when I created the meeting.

The create from Sakai is actually passing the duration already, but it's passing "duration=0" which is overriding the default value. The log is a little hard to read because it's broken up, but it's on the second line of the create.

Good catch.  The question I would have is: is the value of 45 saved when your editing the meeting.  If you save, then go back an edit, does the value show 45?

If so, the error looks like the meeting tool is not loading the value from the database when creating the 'create' parameters.  

If not, the error looks like the value not being saved to the database.

Not sure about the tool side of things. I just wanted to say that setting the duration in bigbluebutton.properties won't have an effect with Sakai.

I have to figure this out somehow. Otherwise, I cannot prevent the registration periods. Teachers forget the screen at their 30-minute meeting, and hours of meaningless recordings are made. Somehow I have to limit each meeting time to 45 minutes. The teacher should be able to update the "Meeting duration" limit. But I have to limit this to 45 minutes by default. Teachers can create a meeting without valuing "Meeting duration". 

This should not happen! BBB ignores the values ​​"Join open date" and "Join closed date" !!!

Agreed -- it should work.  The bbb-tool is either not saving the value in the database (which means the value is always zero) or the code for generating the 'create' API call isn't properly reading that value for the database.

Regardless of the reason, we'll let others who are more familiar with the code have a chance to take a look.  It's definitely a bug, and one that we would like to fix.

We don't (yet) have the ability for the teacher to update the duration within a meeting.  Once the duration is set (i.e. passed via the create as '&duration=45', the meeting will only go 45 minutes.

An alternative way of doing the above is to create an external script that monitors all the meetings and has some simple logic, such as if a meeting has been going for > 45 minutes and there is only one person in the meeting for > 5 minutes, then this meeting can likely be ended.  The BigBlueButton API gives you all the calls to monitor meetings, get info on meetings, and end meetings.

Building an external script gives you a bit more flexibility on the logic for ending the meeting, instead of a hard-coded value.
