Hi everyone,
It's great that there is such a strong community of developers, administrators, and users around the BigBlueButton project. This community has grown over 10 years and it's a pretty special place.
I remind everyone that we all wear our open source hats in this community. There is no place herein for commercial advertising.
Why? It's not helpful for the community if a company (or individual) to post "I can solve your problem, but you need to contact me directly." The answers are not shared with the community and it discourages others from volunteering their time.
We're not interested in these forums degrading into a place where people stop sharing information. If it's a choice between having a commercial company advertise their services (and requiring people to contact them and/or pay them), and having a strong community of people sharing and helping each other, we'll choose the community over the company (and ban the company/individual from these forums).
There are many other places to advertise one's commercial services. These forums are not one of them.
If you are a commercial company, you are welcome to have a signature line in your posts referencing back to your company, but any overt advertising of services in these forums will risk you being banned.
If someone posts asking for help, you can, of course, contact them directly, as they are asking for commercial help.
We realize all our email addresses are visible in these forums. If we find that companies are scraping the forums and mailing out advertising of services (if you received any such emails, please let me know), we will ban the company and any individuals related to the companies from these forums.
Justice, while your post may have had a positive intent, anything that hints of "contact me off list" falls under the above description. Of course, please do continue to help others in these forums.
Again, we are making a choice here between keeping an open and sharing community or allowing companies/individuals to solicit others to contact them directly. We will always choose the open community.
If anyone using BigBlueButton wishes to engage a company for commercial support, a quick Google search will reveal lots of options.
However, if anyone posts to these forums looking for help, they are doing so to join the BigBlueButton community, to get non-commercial help from it's members in these forums, and (we hope) to contribute back in kind to further strengthen the community.
Regards,.. Fred
