The Raspberry Pi foundation has announced an 8GB option for the Pi 4.

So versions and prices

2GB for $35

4GB for $55

and now 8GB for $75

Personally I don't see a use for 8Gb. So I'll pass.

Raspbian is a 32 bit OS but the foundation is working on a 64 bit distribution.

But you can already run Ubuntu 20.04 server Arm port on the raspberry pi.

(I haven't tried it yet)

Also new Beta firmware for the Pi 4 adds USB boot. The last firmware

announcement had power fixes (So it ran cooler) and network boot. Now

with USB boot you hang an SSD off the USB 3 port and get better performance

than SD Card.

I think I mentioned before the new camera module. They call it the HQ camera:

It is just the sensor board without the lens. It takes a C or CS mount lens.

Which is supposed to be common on security cameras. I thought this would

be very interesting. You could take an old PTZ camera with zoom and maybe

use the lens on the Pi. That way the Pi could do built in zoom. But I don't know

that much about lens and cameras.

I found this last weekend in a box on the sidewalk:

And I thought Ok that's it. But it doesn't seem to be C/CS. The screw part is

1.5" instead of 1" like C/CS. Lens says Sony on it, but that size lens mount on

Wikipedia.

Maybe one of you guys can take a look when we have in person meetings.

So for virtual meeting: I am switching to the third Sunday. SFLUG is on

first Sunday and I want to start attending. Pi day will have to wait till June 21st
