Well, it's official as reported yesterday in Berkeleyside's article '60-year-old Lasher’s Electronics will close at the end of 2020' [1]  :-(

Quoting the first two paragraphs of the Berkeleyside article from [1]:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The million bits and bobs at Al Lasher’s Electronics — commonly known as Lasher’s — will go on sale this month before the store’s glowing fluorescent lights shut off for good after 60 years on University Avenue.
Lasher’s last year was upended by COVID-19, like most local businesses, and the shop had struggled in the past with keeping its building seismically updated, but owner Bob Lasher’s decision to finally close the store was personal, rather than financial.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

According to Al Lashers' Facebook page [2] , the store is still open for a few more weeks before its final closure. Current information on store hours in the remaining time it's open is at its Yelp page [3].

Also note from yesterday's Berkeleyside (and other sources) the recent COVID19-related news 'Alameda County could enforce COVID-19 stay-at-home orders if regional ICU capacity drops below 15%, or sooner' [4] .  That's of course directly related to yesterday's State of California's 'Current guidance on the California coronavirus / COVID-19 stay home order' revision described at [5].

Quoting from the Berkeleyside article [4]:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alameda County, which is in the Bay Area region of the new guidelines, currently has 33% ICU capacity.
Update, 9 p.m.: Alameda County health officials said in a statement that they may enforce the shelter-at-home orders sooner than the state requires if community spread worsens and ICU capacity begins to drop. The latest numbers put capacity at 33%, according to the county’s data on hospitalizations.
“Although Alameda County’s ICU capacity currently exceeds 15%, if this situation worsens, we may need to enact the State’s Stay-at-Home restrictions before the Bay Area region meets the threshold in order to protect ICU bed availability and save lives,” officials said.
Although BerkeleyLUG isn't having its next virtual meetup until the following Sunday of 2020-12-13 (see [6]), SF-LUG *is* having its first Sunday-of-the-month virtual meetup this particular Sunday 2020-12-06 (see details in reference [7]).
Hope that everyone stays safe !!!
Hmmmm, a late-breaking local and directly-related story is that apparently health officers from Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Clara, San Francisco and the City of Berkeley have just announced that their jurisdictions would enact California’s regional stay-at-home order [5] *after all* and *not* wait until the region falls below the 15 percent available ICU capacity that would trigger the three-week stay-at-home order.
On this developing story, please consider also viewing at least...
/me is feeling smug that we in San Mateo County temporarily suck less.
