During the recent Jitsi Meet gathering for BerkeleyLUG, I mentioned
lately trying out the open-source desktop client the Jitsi Project makes
available for Jitsi Meet, rather than using the Chromium Web browser as
I usually do. At the time, I mentioned I _guessed_ that one
disadvantage was that the desktop client is hard-coded to connect only
to rooms on the project's meet.jit.si server.

Well, good news, no, it'll connect to any Jitsi Meet server. For
example, I'm currently on Devuan Project's weekly planning meeting, at
https://vdc.dyne.org/devuan -- and the desktop client, which is a
single specialty binary constructed atop the Electron Javascript engine,
works perfectly fine, and I like it for the purpose just a bit more than
I do a Web browser. FYI.

My boilerplate file about Jitsi Meet, including client-software choices:

List of Jitsi Meet instances :
https://framatalk.org/accueil/en/info

You will need:

o Computer w/supported Web browser. Jitsi Meet's supported list is at
https://jitsi.github.io/handbook/docs/user-guide/supported-browsers

mic w/ speakers/headphones. Headphones/earbuds
are recommended because they avert audio feeback loops.

o or one of the specialised Jitsi Meet client programs:

o Jitsi Meet Client (28MB APK) for Android 5.0+ as published via F-Droid:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jitsi.meet/

o Jitsi Meet Client for Android, as published via Google Play Store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jitsi.meet

o Jitsi Meet Client for iOS, published on Apple iTunes Store
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/jitsi-meet/id1165103905

o Jitsi Meet Electron desktop client (86MB binary: Linux x86_64, MacOS,
MS-Windows), https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet-electron/releases
(Recommendation for headphones/earbuds still applies.)
