Hi,
I'm interested to buy a 2nd hand 1996 First 42s7 ("cruiser" version with shallow iron keel and smaller mast, 2 cabins) for mostly coastal and some offshore sailing.

The reviews are generally good, but does anybody know why there were only made so few yachts and only for this short period? Why did they take it out of production?

Besides that, anything I should watch out for during the survey? All advise is highly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Stijn

Just for the record, I love our 1992 45F5. I like to respond to your question about the survey. I my opinion, there is simply no way for a person to evaluate the condition of a 40+ foot boat in a day. Do not think because the survey is in your favor that every thing is honkey dory! I don't know about your back ground but a 25+ year old boat needs work! If the price is right and you are able to do stuff, you are in a good place :-). Good luck!

Hi Uwe,
Thanks for the advise.
I believe working on a boat is part of the hobby, so I fully agree with you.

I'm only concerned about things I can't fix (mainly construction related) and was therefor wondering why the 42s7 was taken out so early from the market. If it was IRC related or "internal competition" of other models at Beneteau, I wouldn't care less, but otherwise it would be interesting to understand why.

Kind Regards,
Stijn
