Hi everyone,

This is the link to US Sailing PHRF Handicap reports. It will get you an idea of what the base PHRF number is for your boat. I would suggest contacting your local PHRF organization for a certificate and rating. Typically it is $40.00 to $50.00 per year.  I did not see the Oceanis 440 listed though.

PHRF ratings are locally determined.  You should apply to local Committee.

The published ratings are base ratings but your local Rating Committee will provide adjustments to the base rating  for a variety of deviations from the Base Rating assumptions.

As others have said, PHRF ratings are locally determined.  Nearly all start with a base rating and then get adjusted for various configurations and local sailing conditions.

I randomly looked at the PHRF of Chesapeake.

They have several Ben Ocn 440's listed.  The base rating for all is 93.  Boats without spinnaker fall in a range of 96 thru 102.

They have two types of 393's listed:
A Ben Ocn 393 DK is listed with base rating 120, w/o spin 135-144
A Ben Ocn 393 SD is listed with base rating 138, w/o spin 144-156

If this is a charity event, go with the base rating. If you aren't flying a spinnaker,  go with an average of the range.

You will need to contact your local PHRF fleet to find out what you need to do.

Here is a link the the PHRF fleet directory:

Good luck.

Not all localities have separate base ratings for non-spin and spin.

Also Chesapeke often differs by around 6 seconds per mile when compared to other areas.

Every area/region has their own governing body that issues PHRF ratings/certificates.  I sail on Lake Michigan and they have their own "authority".  I can't find a 440 registered with them on LM but there is a 393.  This link should take you to the page where you can search for boats by make/model.  Enter Beneteau 393 to see the boat and what the rating certificate looks like.

I have a 352 and they have a boat Identical to mine that I use when doing charity races too.

Contact your local PHRF committee ASAP, or reach out to the Race Committee who is running the race.
As it is a charity event, they might issue a temp certificate for you.
Good luck with the CERT and the race

Bill,
We did not remove the anchor but maybe next year. We took second place in the Spirit Rider Regatta, only to lose to a Beneteau 46. A fantastic  race with great conditions.

I will need to get a proper PHRF but used 120 as I found in the LI ratings. Thanks all for you input!

Congratulations.
I never raced the boat.
I did not mean that you should remove anchor, I said chain. You have about 200 ft of anchor chain and about 100 ft of line. The anchor chain weighs a lot.
