I currently have a Raymarine ST60 Tridata Instrument connected to  Airmar Speed/Temperature Sensor 20-399-01 and  Airmar Depth Transducer 20-386-02. I've not been able to find a manual listing the physical specifications of the two Airmar sensors. I've had problems getting my water speed calibrated and the temperature is significantly off, beyond the calibration range of the ST60.

Does anyone have a pointer to details on the sensors?

I've installed a B&G Zeus 3s chartplotter and have been thinking of replacing the remaining Raymarine displays with B&G displays, as well as replacing the water sensors with a DST810 connected directly to the NMEA2000 bus. What I've been trying to figure out is if the hull fitting would have to be replaced, meaning that the boat must be out of the water, or if I can do it in the water.

Thanks. Wim.

I ended up just replacing my speed/temp transducer as I didn't want to spend the time glassing the empty transducer hole. I think the transducer housings are standard, and one of the two you have in your 373 should work.

Definitely useful to recognize that the different O Rings are recommended, I still would like confirmation that the diameter and depth of the existing fittings match before spending the money on the new device.

Thanks.

I’ve also been considering replacing my existing speed/temp transducer as well. The existing paddlewheel on my boat gives erratic readings. The video is helpful.

Do I understand correctly changing the O-Ring is only necessary if the existing fixture does not have the valve? From the rather puny geyser when I remove my existing transducer to clean it, I think it already has such a valve.

Thanks!

I was just reading the installation guide for the ST800 and ST810 https://www.airmar.com/uploads/InstallGuide/17-435-01.pdf and it certainly appears that the black ring is to be used if you don't have a valve and the yellow ring if you do.

WARNING: The YELLOW O-ring must be in place near the top of the insert to make a watertight seal.
WARNING: To retrofit the insert in a housing without a valve, the insert must have a BLACK O-ring near the top to make a watertight seal

Installing in Housing WITHOUT Valve
To create a watertight seal in a housing that does NOT have a valve, the insert must have a BLACK O-ring near the top. Use Replacement O-ring Kit 20-519-01 and follow the instructions supplied.

If you end up sticking with Seatalk / Raymarine, you can use an ITC-5 transducer converter that allows you to use transducer data in a STng network.  With the power of Google you can find out the ohm characteristics of your transducers to see if it's your transducer or your instrument that it's out of spec.

My boat had a lightning issue this year and I'm deep in the learning process myself.

I decided to stick with Raymarine.  I chartered a boat last year with an Axiom and decided to go that route.

I just changed out my paddlewheel speed/temp sensor with an Airmar UST-800 ultrasonic sensor. These have been hit or miss for years but it seems Airmar finally got them to work ok. I'll post my experience after I've used it for a while. I was really getting tired of having inaccurate speed and constant cleaning of the wheel. I was out of the water anyway so could have changed the through hull fitting if needed, but the UST-800 fit right into the paddlewheels fitting. .

I'm looking forward to your review.

I was comparing the Airmar UDST800 with the DST810 by looking at the product descriptions. The UDST800 seems to be priced around $1200 while the DST810 is around $$350. The DST810 also includes attitude sensors, which seems like a cool feature to play with. The DST810 also seems to be a single unit that connects to the NMEA2000 bus, where the UDST800 has a secondary box that needs to be mounted. Much as I like the idea of no paddlewheel, the other features and lower cost of the DST810 will probably have me upgrade to it first and wait another generation for the UDST.

JoeT, how did the Ultrsonic sensor work out?

I have not had the chance to fully evaluate the UST800 as most time has been spent re-tuning the rig (the boat was moved to a different lake and all rigging was taken down for inspection). However, So far it seems to work well, speed matched well with GPS readings, and, AND, it seem s to read well at very low speeds. The paddle wheels, especially when fouled any, don't start reading until 1-5 - 2 kts. Spec on the old ST800 says speed range is 2.0 - 45 kts, while the UST800 is 0.1 - 50 kts. That's nice for those drifting days where every 1/10 th kt counts, and gives better set & drift measurement.

Interesting to hear. How stable is the reading? My paddle wheel transducer is all over the place. It makes things like TWS equally erratic.

I think it gets some turbulence, but some smoothing would be nice.

I may need to do this, I have to clean the zebra mussels off of my speedo on a regular basis.

I finally decided I was going to replace my old speed and depth sensor with a combined DST810 and put a Triton2 display at the helm station. I was hoping I could do it without pulling the boat out of the water. I bought the two devices from West Marine last weekend when they had the triple rewards points deal on electronics. Unfortunately, the new device is approximately 40mm wide at the water end, while the old devices were 30mm wide. The old devices are straight from the top to the lower end, while the newer devices have a transition from the shaft to the sensor end. I'd been suspicious that it wasn't going to be an easy swap when I compared the new device to the old blanking plug, but I had to pull the old device out and compare to be sure.

Luckily West Marine took back the new hardware and refunded me the price with no issues, so I'm just feeling disainted that I don't have a new toy on my boat right now.
