Hi folks,

I'm relatively new to both Beancount and double-entry accounting so please bear with me. I'm unsure how best to record the following series of transactions in Beancount. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. 2021-15-15 Buy 150 shares of DLR.TO {12.9766666 CAD} with 0.52 CAD in fees
  2. 2021-12-17 Journal 150 DLR.TO shares to DLR.U.TO (no fees). Book value $1524.09 with conversion rate 1.2775
  3. 2021-12-21 Sell 150 DLR.U.TO {10.053333 USD} for 1508 USD with 5.47 USD in fees
What's the best way to record these transactions? The purchase of the shares is straightforward, but I'm unclear how to represent the share journalling and subsequent sale.

I'd recommend the documentation. It has the examples you want for 1 and 3:

I'm not sure I understand what (2) is. It sounds like a conversion, and if so, check out this thread.
