Why does it take so long for BBB to power off

I am just wondering - why does it take so long (more than 4-5 minutes) for Beaglebone Black equipped with Debian to actually power off after issuing poweroff in the terminal?
Do you experience the same behavior with your BBB?

Add the parameter   now   after your poweroff command and see what happens.

Or you could read up on the poweroff command for Linux and see what the default delay is.
