way to exclude folders from Site search, updates and syntax check?

Looking for a way to exclude folders from Site search, updates and syntax check?

for example, in this Site, I wany to exclude files in "_x" folder in public html directory.

This would be a helpful addition to keep from searching in folders one would not need to look in. For instance, I would not necessarily need to search "node_modules", or "env" folders. The "node_modules" folder can get fairly large.

Multi-File Search skips node_modules folders by default; and
otherwise provides advanced filtering capabilities, should you
choose to employ them.

Rich's response notwithstanding, couldn't you create another project that excludes those folders, just for the purpose of doing those checks?
