Possible to Use BBEdit to Batch Replace File or Folder Names Using Multi-File Search?

Hello BBedit team and friends,

I was just wondering if it is possible to use BBEdit to batch change file names or folder names in a folder using BBEdit’s Multi-File Search function.

I have about 370 folders inside my onlline graphics folder, and inside each of those 370 folders, there is a BBEdit text file currently named “- BBB links.html”.

I want to change that file name to “- Blog Template.html” in all of those 370 folders.

Is this possible with BBEdit, or do I need to use another utility?

There is a wonderful command-line utility called rename. It can be installed via homebrew: brew install rename.

It has a dry-run option -n, and works with Perl-style regex.

Go to your online graphics folder, and run:

rename -n ‘s/BBB links/Blog Template/g’ */BBB\ links.html

That should do a dry run and list the proposed changes. The, if that is right, you can rerun with the -n option removed.
