Hi, When I do a multi-file search I get an error message in the search results window:

Error: File [nameoffolder]: Operation not permitted by the OS.

BBEdit has Full Disk Access and is allowed to access Files and Folders in the Security & Privacy settings.

In the Finder permission for the folder and all its contents are wide open.

Any suggestions?

Certain directories are considered "vaults" by the OS, and applications are not allowed to perform file system operations inside them.

"Full Disk Access" does not affect this (nor, indeed, does Full Disk Access have any useful benefit to BBEdit).

For specific folder types, you can example per-application permission grants in the "Security & Privacy" system preferences, but depending on which folder it is, there is no guarantee that the OS can be convinced to grant the necessary access permissions.

(These access permissions are not to be confused with Unix file system permissions, which themselves are only a part of the security layer cake.)

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.
