Olson 25 Bay Area Season Schedule

Folks,
After receiving feedback from a number of owners, we arrived at the following schedule for the 2024 Olson 25 season series. There was general support for the originally proposed schedule. We have made some small adjustments based on the feedback received.
The schedule comprises 14 races over 7 days.

Low point scoring will be used. If races are cancelled, discards will be per below.
- 13 or more races, count each boat’s 10 best scores.
- 11-12 races, count each boat’s 9 best scores.
- 10 or fewer races, count each boat’s 8 best scores.
- 8 races or fewer, count each boat’s score in each race.
For the purpose of the Fleet Championship scoring, boats that receive DNS, DSQ, or DNF in a given race will be assigned a score equal to the number of finishers plus 1 point for that race.
The changes made provide more support for YRA races and allows the fleet to sail in most parts of San Francisco bay including a day in the Alameda estuary. Events such as the Wheeler regatta, July EYC event, and the Great Pumpkin all provide opportunities for the competing Olsons to gather on Saturday evening at the event location. For the EYC regatta in July, Otto’s Garage Brewing will ensure out fleet is well hydrated with some of John’s finest brews.
St Francis Yacht Club will host our National regatta on 10/18-20 as part of the StFYC Fall Regatta. We have asked for a Friday afternoon distance race in keeping with our past two national championships.
It should also be noted that last year’s cost for YRA Summer series was $60 per race, and $120 for the four races. Given that we will count two of those races, it is likely worthwhile to sign up for the series. While we won’t count the 1st and 3rd days, it is still a good opportunity to get out, compete, and enjoy the bay.
SSS Three Bridge Fiasco is set for 1/27. While this is not a fleet counter, we do have a fleet perpetual trophy for the first Olson 25 to finish. We have gathered a minimum of 5 boats the last several years to have a one design class. Holping we can do the same again in 2024. It is such a great race to start the season. As noted previously we have no fleet counters in June. That appeared to fit well with a majority of owners schedules. I would like to personally encourage anyone interested to consider sailing the Delta Ditch run on 6/8. It is one of the most unique races in the bay. As a mostly moderate air running course, it is well suited for the Olson 25. Stockton YC throws a good party on arrival as well. I am happy to answer any questions you have about the Ditch run, logistics tactics, navigation etc.

Encouraging all Olson 25s to register for the full YRA in-the-bay series. Although only 2 of the dates count for our season, if we get enough boats registered, we'll get a one-design start.
The dates and starting areas are:
4/13/24: City Front
5/11/24: Knox (season counter, as listed below)
7/6/24: South Bay
8/17/24: Southampton (season counter, as listed below)
