Dear Basilisk Users,

I am currently simulating the flow of a viscoelastic fluid past a cylinder using Basilisk. I started with the example code karman.c and have added log-conform.h to simulate an Oldroyd-B fluid. The code works well for low Reynolds number (Re) and low Weissenberg number (Wi). However, when I increase the Wi to around 10, the code crashes, which I suspect is due to the trace blowing up (1e9). I have attached the vorticity animation, which shows some numerical artifacts.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm attaching my current version of the code. Thank you very much for your time.

Best regards,
Santanu

Dear Santanu

Try the same case with masking and creating a new cylindrical boundary with bid.

See if it works.

Best wishes

Dear Prof. Yadav,

Thank you for the suggestion. Using mask is helpful, although some numerical artifacts still remain. Could you please let me know how the masking works or suggest some resources on the topic? I would like to try to modify it to adapt to my study.

Best regards,
Santanu
