Don't know why I stayed on 18 for so long, but looks like I need to go all the way to 22 to get clients that will install cleanly on Debian 11. Server is CentOS 7. Any issues I should watch out for making this large leap? Is it better to do incremental upgrades, or should the single leap be ok?

Thanks.
Seth

I upgraded from Bareos 17 to 22 in one step, while switching os from Debian to Rocky and it worked like a charm. Of course, you should have a working backup of your catalog and take a look at the upgrade notes of each version. As an example, starting with Bareos 21, Mysql isn’t supported as catalog database, any more. If you have the chance, take the catalog to a virtual machine and try the update, then you’ll realize the pitfalls.

Andreas

For that specific DB backend we've provided 'bareos-dbcopy' to migrate
catalog to postgres - that one would need a stop at Bareos 20.

Hi Seth,

i did an upgrade from bareos 17 --> 21 without any problems (Server CentOS 7, with one stop at bareos 20). I switched from mysql to psql 13 on bareos 20. During the bareos-dbcopy run i got:

-------------------------------------------------------

Could not end Sql Copy: cats/postgresql_batch.cc:385 error ending batch mode: ERROR: value "3158757611" is out of range for type integer

CONTEXT: COPY media, line 1, column volwrites: "3158757611"

Solution: UPDATE Media SET VolWrites = 0 WHERE VolWrites > '2000000000';

-------------------------------------------------------

But this is well documented, too.

Due to the huge Size of the DB, i created an extra VM with enough space for the migration. We switched from CentOS 7 to debian 11 without any problems (Client + Server)

greets

Steffen
