External barcode scanner

Dear all,

I have a DDS-4 Tapelibrary without a barcode scanner.

I am thinking of writing a script that sets the tape names inserted the slots of the magazine using an external barcode scanner. The idea is to  manually scan the barcode on the tape once I put them into the autoloader library and update the database.

As an experiment, I have tried to change the slot and the inchanger field in the table media. This however did not work, i.e. bareos did not recognize as the volumes being available.

So what would I need to do to make the loaded tapes known to bareos?
