PRINCE PHILIP: our loss is the loss of a great man.

An extraordinary man who led an extraordinary life.

A man, a husband, a queens consort,

Who, with his wife, her majesty the queen, became the greatest team of ambassadors the world has ever seen.

Bless you sir. thank you, and we applaud you support,  not just of her Majesty the queen, but our country, and its citizens.

RIP

Well said.  The world is a sadder place.

I like this…

Does anyone like Prince Philip?

One night, before shipping out to the Pacific theatre, my father and a friend were walking back to the naval base from one of the local pubs. They heard a car engine, and were suddenly illuminated by its headlights. A two-seater MGA sports car with the top down screeched to a halt beside them, and the officer driving said, “Hop in — or in your case… “ looking at my father, who was the smaller of the two, “…Hop on.” He jerked a thumb towards the spare wheel perched on the boot lid.

His friend got in the passenger seat, and Dad rode the spare wheel while hanging on to his service cap at speeds of around 70 miles an hour until the driver stopped about a hundred yards from the HMS Raleigh training base guardroom.

“Ok, regulations say no fraternisation, so you never met me. Goodnight, gentlemen.”

Said Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the driver of the MG.

Dad liked him.

And so did I when I met him many years later when his wife presented me with a medal I probably didn't deserve.
