Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm a Sr Manager retired from Canara bank.  I want to know the Insurance coverage for cataract operation for myself (both eyes). The eye hospital is asking me what is the insurance coverage from insurance companies. I have taken IBA Group medical cover.

Thanking You,
Yours,
T.R.Kartik

Mr Kartik,

1.Under current  IBA GMIS Policy clause No.3.3 eye surgery is included and no cap is fixed.
Reasonable amount is found allowed in cataract surgery under the policy so far,say around ₹30,000  or plus.
2.Under policy for 2025-26 first time a capping is made at Rs 40000/ for cataract operation.
Regards,
Mohan.P

For 2025-26, it is going to be ₹40,000/- for an eye.

At present it may be around ₹25,000 to ₹35,000/-. However, check once.

Dear All
In IBA policy most of the items have tariff cap subtly operative, not discernible to insured retired bank pensioners.
Many carry the impression that only room rent has cap.
For instance consultation fee has, operation theatre  chàrges has and so on. The gullible pensioner meekly pays whatever the hospital charges beyond the cap.
No amount of higher limit will be of avail if by some mechanism over charging by hospitals is not arrested or capping is raised to higher amount.
Merely increasing the limit will only serve the cause of Insurance company's premium collection.
It is said, the claim is mostly in the range of ₹50000 to1, 00,000.
Whoever wishes to have lower limits from cost angle, same should be facilitated
Those in lower pension earning bracket should be given extra subsidy for premium payment as updation continues to be mirage
Every year the insured pensioners wait with bated breath for terms better than what exists but only to be disappointed.

Under the IBA (Indian Banks' Association) Group Medical Insurance scheme, cataract surgery is typically covered, with a maximum reimbursement limit of ₹30,000 per eye. However, some retirees have reported receiving reimbursements up to ₹40,000 per eye. The cost of the intraocular lens (IOL) may also be covered, with a separate limit, such as ₹10,000,  but my friend got only 33000 his bill was around 42000,in some small city charges 30000 while in city like Bangaluru, Mumbai and Delhi minimum charges are 50000
