Now that our libraries are starting to open up again, how are you handling sanitization for high-touch items such as computer keyboards and headphones? Are you lending headphones or requiring patrons to provide their own?

Dear Marci and friends,

I know I am no longer a BAML librarian; however, I thought I'd chime in since we've been open for over a year.
We discontinued the loan of headphones. We bought boxes of disposable earbuds (50 cents each) and give them out upon request.
Staff computers are wiped down regularly (6-7 times a day, plus at opening and closing).
Public access computers are wiped down regularly (3-4 times a day) and are 6 feet apart. Patrons are encouraged to wipe them before/after use.
Loaner laptops and mobile hotspots are sanitized upon return, but they are not quarantined.
Other library materials are no longer quarantined upon return (in the early days of COVID, everything got quarantined for 72 hours).
Wipes and hand sanitizer are available throughout the building.
Plexiglass shields remain in place at all service points.
Supposedly, our facilities staff use electro-static cleaners in the building at night.

I hope this helps,

Alan
