Fascinating Cathy!
On the basis of these results the scientist advises that for walking the distance of people moving in the same direction in 1 line should be at least 4–5 meter, for running and slow biking it should be 10 meters and for hard biking at least 20 meters. Also, when passing someone it is advised to already be in different lane at a considerable distance e.g. 20 meters for biking.

Thanks! Stay healthy and safe!

All the Best,
Tom

Complicated issue. Air flow is not neat. Wind speed and direction constantly change. Cars pass and create more turbulence.  Sunlight and UV also factor in.  Bottom line for me:  stay apart and avoid drafting, be sensible and what jon said. Be well everyone!

I had to do it yesterday! I had to! But...I made sure there was nobody around. There were people walking and riding and it was great but most of my trip was totally solitary, other than cars. Went to Hamilton to p/u ken’s car at the dealer.
Indeed, stay safe and healthy and try to still have fun 💖☮️😎

Cathy, Bill,
Thanks for the very interesting articles. I note that the one from OregonLive uses the example of cigarette smoke. I've always found it interesting while riding, that when someone in a car drives by with the window down, you can smell their smoke or perfume. Do you also get their micro-vapor?

Add to Jon and Don's advice, when you pass walkers while cycling, make certain to give them plenty of distance so they don't have to walk into your waste air.

And I'd like to adjust the terms we use here: We should be calling it "physical distancing" , we can still be 'social' ;-}

Be safe,
Rich
