Here is the Marriage of her parents (Maria Florinda).  I just don't trust myself, but what I think it says.

Date of marriage: June 4th 1789?

Groom Lourenco Jose de Sousa

Son of
Mathius de Sousa Lopes and Maria Francisca Rosaria?

Baptized Estrella Ribeira Grande

Bride Luisa Francisca

Daughter of
Pedro Francisco de Medeiros and Maria? Ferreira (with a y)

Also can someone help with the margin notes as prior explained they too have significance and all I can make out is the year July 26 1853? I think it is possible passing of Lourenco?
Thanks to all!  Rene

Hello Rene.  You did quite well and are very close, but I do see somethings differently.

Date is 24 June 1789
Groom: Lourenço José de Sousa, son of Mateus de Sousa Lopes and his wife Maria Francisca do Rosario, baptized in Matriz da Estrella, Ribeira Grande
Bride: Luisa Francisca daughter of Pedro Furtado de Medeiros, deceased, and his wife Rosa Ferreira. natural and baptized in this parish of NS do Rosario, Achadinha

The margin note I believe just shows that they were given a certificate of this record on that date which I see as 26 Sep (7.bro) 1853.  This could have been for many reasons (passport, marriage, godparent, inheritance, etc.)

I hope this helps.

Thank you every bit of help gets me a bit better.  The dates are a struggle for me probably because I don't speak Portuguese, but will practice with the numbers next!  I would have never figured Furtado!!!  Thank you!

HI R. Downey,

Yes, typically people can pick out the names first, the months second, and the dates are last. And those probably have the largest learning curve. Many of us on this list that help "read" the records learned through perseverance. Lots of practice and it does start to make sense.
