 Hello everyone!

I'm confused about a situation. In Paulo's baptismal record:

https://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-ND-SAOJORGE-B-1650-1674/SMG-ND-SAOJORGE-B-1650-1674_item1/index.html?page=22

Izabel Cabeceiras (wife of Paulo da Costa, the alleged brother of the child's mother) appears as the godmother. However, in Lourenso's baptism:

https://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-ND-SAOJORGE-B-1650-1674/SMG-ND-SAOJORGE-B-1650-1674_item1/index.html?page=102

The priest indicates that it is not Izabel Cabeceiras who is the godmother, but "Breatriz" Cabeceiras (wife by Paulo da Costa)

Paulo married for the first time in 1642:

https://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-ND-SAOJORGE-C-1611-1646/SMG-ND-SAOJORGE-C-1611-1646_item1/index.html?page=44

His wife died in 1653, and I couldn't find his second marriage to prove this.

Hi Fabio,

I am still a newbie when it comes to genealogy, but there are several possibilites that you cannot rule out: (1) Two different "Paulos da Costa", for example, first cousins who married first cousins from the Cabeceiras family, which would not be unusual; (2) The priest made a mistake; (3) The second marriage occurred in a different parish. None of these family names appear in my family tree, so I cannot help you much more.

I am sure the real experts in this group will provide you with better insights if they can.

Cheers,

Carlos

The period of 1640 to about 1670 is missing quite a few records in Nordeste. Same for period of 1600-1620.

Thanks, Carlos! I hope it was a mistake by the curate, otherwise I'll have a hard time because, as John mentioned, there are no records of Nordestes between 1600 and 1620. I'd just like to know what our more experienced friends in the group do in a situation like this.

When I run out of records, I mark the ancestor as "End of the Line."
