Just wondering if someone can identify the names of the bride and grooms and their parents. See attached address below. .Entry no. 5 dated 29 April 1861
I think the bride might be Isabel ? Pereira da Silveira e Sousa and the groom Jose Soares Pereira de Sousa.

The Sao Jorge Marriage Index on saojorgegenealogy.org has then ass Jose Soares Pereira de Sousa and Isabel Beatris Pereira da Silveira e Sousa on 29 Apr 1861, Urzelina.

Tony, Jose is a Doctor and Isabel is Dona. My eyes are too bad to read the parents but I'm sure someone else can!

Hi Tony,
I wonder if the transcribers for the index got this wrong. It does look like Doutor Jose Soares Pereira de Sousa for the groom at first; but the "Periera" looks more like the "Teixeira" in his father's name than the "Pereira" in the brides name.
This is how I see it, which differs only slightly from Cheri:
Groom: Doutor Jose Soares Teixeira de Sousa, age 35, baptized in Velas
Son of Tenente Coronel Miguel Teixeira Soares de Sousa and Dona Maria Angelica Soares,
Paternal grandson of Capitão-Mor José Soares de Sousa and Dona Barbara Josefa, both deceased
Maternal grandson of Coronel Inacio Doares de Albergaria and Dona Isabel Delfina
Bride: Isabel Beatris Pereira de Sousa, age 23, baptized in Urzelina
Daughter of José de Matos de Azevedo and Dona Isabel Maria da Silveira, residents of this parish
Paternal granddaughter of José Inacio de Azevedo and Dona Maria Inacia de Bettencourt
Maternal granddaughter of Capitão-Mor Joaquim José Pereira da Silveira e Sousa and Dona Maria Dorotea da Silveira
My wife has a lot of ancestors from Urzelina, but none mentioned this record (so many titles these must have been prominent people). Her grandmother who was born in Urzelina was Candida Amarante. I met one of wife's DNA matches in Manadas (Maria José) last year who dropped your name as someone that contacted her and would be visiting São Jorge in the near future. Have you made that trip yet?

I don't know; I think Cheri was correct with Soares. Don't go with Coronel Inacio Doares like Bill wrote.

The Sao Jorge Marriage Index has Miguel Teixeira Soares de Sousa marrying Maria Angelica Soares de Albergaria on 25 Aug 1822, image #113 in Velas.

Bill - Special thanks for the level of details. You are an absolute legend. Yes, I got to Manadas and caught up with Maria. Also fortunate enough to share the experience with my entire family. In relation to Doares verses Soares it is definitely Soares. Refer to marriage record in Book of Casamentos 1788 - 1806 for the Church of the Matriz São Jorge, Velas, São Jorge Island, Azores. Marriage entry 1231, image reference number 0026. Groom is recorded as Ignacio Soares de Albergaria and bride as Isabel Delfina da Silveira. Date of marriage 9 June 1793. Cheers Tony

There is no such name as Doares. It had to be a typo and I didn't catch it. As I said, my computer died and I'm working off my phone in the interim, which is difficult. It's a 2 x 2.5 inch (5 x 6.2 cm) workspace. It's terrible. Cheri
