Sam, I'm wondering if it's an old spelling of Custudio/Costudio?? I'll admit I know nothing of Santa Maria names so I'm sure there is someone who knows for sure!!

Rosemarie;  I do have the name Custudio Jose de Figueiredo in my family tree.  Unfortunately, he is married to a different woman…  I know it could be a different wife of the same guy but; will have to prove it to know for sure.  Thanks for your take on the name..

Rosemarie is correct, it is Custódio, but written as "Costhodio".

Sam,

Custódio's parents are Francisco Soares de Figueiredo & Francisca Rosa da Fonte, so you can check if it's the same Custódio.

Thanks Angela, Unfortunately, I don’t have the parents of “my” Custódio yet.  I show him married to a Maria Rosa and to a Maria Jacinta.  I suspect that the two Marias are the same person but; not sure yet.
