I am trying to obtain a marriage certificate for a couple married in Ponta Delgada in 1922.   Is there a way to do this online, requesting the document and paying for it by credit card?

Hello Maria,
There’s a portal for citizens but you will need to create an account with Portuguese credentials.  See here
If unable to sign in this way the best option would be your nearest Portuguese Consulate or through a local genealogist.  João Ventura would be able to assist with that.

I think Joao Ventura will be your best option.  Obtaining certificates online from "eportugal" is restricted to 100 years from the year of birth.  Since the marriage record you seek is from 1922 then the couple's birth dates are prior to 2019 and would not be allowed via the "eportugal" portal.  The birth date field is mandatory field.
Entering a birth year larger than 100 years will prompt an error message as indicated below.

I meant (digo) ... couple's birth dates are prior to 1919... as a correction to the above.

Thank you everyone.  I think my best bet is to contact Joao Ventura.  The reason I wanted the marriage certificate is because I can't find the bride's birth certificate.  I tried the ePortugal website and had a hard time understanding it in Portuguese.  My portuguese is limited.

I am actually looking for the marriage of Joao Batista who was born in 1901 in Rabo de Peixe to Irene de Jesus Cordeiro from Arrifes.   She also goes by the name of Irene da Costa Medeiros and is the daughter of Jose de Costa and Rita de Jesus.   I have checked Arrifes and some of the parishes of Ponta Delgada, but so far no luck in finding her.   I figured the marriage certificate would give me the information I need.   And, I have the marriage date (it was on Joao Batista's birth certificate).

Thank you again everyone!

Well, if it is the baptism you’re looking for have a look here, # 25 left side.  Let me know if you need help reading it.

Maria,

I think I found the right parents for Irene, looking for her baptism at the moment but I just re-read your email slowly and noticed you seem to have some incorrections.

Joao born in 1901 in Rabo de Peixe married Irene Cordeiro in 1922 in Ponta Delgada.  He is not the child of Irene.  He’s the husband.  His parents are: Jacinto Batista and Maria do Rosario.

Also based on Irene’s parents names listed in your email, since the margin note says Joao died in Matriz de Sao Sebastiao, this is where I went looking for Irene’s baptism.

Here’s Jose Cordeiro da Costa and Rita de Jesus marriage in Sao Sebastiao

Here’s Irene’s baptism # 39, bottom right

Thank you Margaret.  Yes, I have that.  It is Irene I am looking for.   It was from that birth record that I got the information on the marriage.  I was hoping that the marriage certificate would state where Irene was from.  The family says she is from Arrifes.  I checked, but no luck.   She may also be from Ponta Delgada, but I have not found her yet.

Maybe instead of searching all parishes, it would be easier to get the marriage certificate.  That date I know.

Thanks for your help.

Margaret found Irene's baptism in Ponta Delgada, in the Sao Sebastiao church (the Matriz). Margaret posted that link, so that is where your Irene is from.
