Repost for James,  jamesfteixeira at gmail.com

I’m still trying to locate and develop my family tree from Santa Maria, Sao Miguel, and the azores.  If anyone knows of a good genealogist who can assist, let me know. Thanks.

A list of researchers for hire can be found on the Azores GenWeb here:

thank you. Do you have  any recommendation for ones that share copies of the documents they find? I had one just share index but no documents and was expensive for not much result.

Hi James,

For a researcher to find a document and share it with you means you have to pay them for their time and then they share the document with you. You may need it translated and again, that takes time, so the researcher will need compensation. Some researchers will create a family tree for you (your initial inquiry). Creating a family tree is a few hundred dollars. No researcher for hire will create a tree for a few bucks. The fees that researchers charge vary. Some researchers post their fees and others you will have to ask. The list of researchers can be found here:

I'm sure an Internet search may turn up others. $ome work for large companie$. (Yes, the dollar sign was intentional).

thanks again. I spent a few hundred dollars and didn’t get even a photo of the baptismal record. I have develpp op Ed the family tree but the researcher said they don’t like to use anecdotal info, even though I have records to back up what I do have… so I’m trying a different route to see if there are quality genealogists who don’t just charge…big bucks for nothing..,

When looking for a researcher for hire, I'd ask if they give you a 4 generation tree or a 5 generation tree, if they provide the documents to back up the dates on the tree, and if they provide translations of the certificates. I'm sure others may come up with questions when shopping for a researcher. Most of us on this list just do it ourselves.
