Obtaining photocopies or scans of Inventarios from Archives in Ponta Delgada

I seem to recall someone posting about obtaining copies of Inventarios and other documents from the Archives in Ponta Delgada, but I can't seem to find the posting. DOes anyone know what the process is?

Hi Scott,

If you are there, you can request the inventario and take pictures with your cell.

If you are not there, you can email them. They told me they will only do select pages that have to do with genealogy, but they told Margaret Vicente they will copy the whole thing (everything is for a fee though). I guess because I'm not fluent enough, they give me different answers (ummm, I could pay someone to translate the whole thing if I wanted, so why do they tell me they will only do select pages)?

Cheri,
There may have been some miscommunication as your experience falls
within option three.

Here's what they said:
- copia simples [photocopy] cost of 0,20 cents each
- copia digital [digital copy] cost of 0,65 cents each
- copia certificada [certified copy] where the more significant parts
of the inventory are extracted, which are the declarations of the head
of the couple, assets, map of assets division and Court's decision.
Cost $20,40 euros

When I contacted them by email I included a copy of my findings,
identifying file and its location in their Archives. Received a
response within a couple of days and after the wire payment was sent I
emailed them a copy of the receipt. Within one week I received the
file.

Hi Margaret,

No, I don't believe it was a miscommunication. On my last day there, a man was working behind the counter and he was bilingual. He told me (in English) that when I went home to America and find more inventories that I would like, it would still be possible to get copies. He said to email them and they would only copy pages that had to do with genealogy (because I really wouldn't want the rest) and email back (for a fee, which I did not discuss, as the inventories are all different amounts of pages). He gave me their contact card. So maybe it just depends on who you contact as to what story they will give you.

You go to their "card catalog" of sorts. It's here: http://www.arquivos.azores.gov.pt/

I type in a name and the freguesia. (NOTE: Modern Portuguese spellings). I did "melo tainhas" as I can get away with part of a freguesia name. When it comes up, click it and scroll to the bottom:

It's 7 pages (so up to 14 copies) and I've circled the location.
