More Hawaii help needed

Cheri,

I have looked everywhere for the books you mentioned but cannot find them. The closest library that has a copy is in Salt Lake City (a little far from Toronto, Canada). On the same passenger list, there is a Manoel de Medeiros (34), Maria Julia (30) and the their two children Maria (5) and Roza (3). Would you be able to tell me who Manoel's parents are?

Wife Maria Julia, 30, daughter of Joao Furtado Pereira and Maria Julia

Children: Maria 5, Rosa 3, Conceicao 8 months.

All born in Ribeira Quente.

Thanks Cheri. My freguesia is Rosario, de Medeiros were EVERYWHERE. I thought that since my Medeiros Manteiga were on the ship, maybe these Medeiros were also related. I have 2 Manuel Medeiros in my tree that fit the husband's age but did not have a wife for either and could not find a marriage record for the time that would fit the first child's birth. I figured I would try to match with the parents but they do not match and now I know why, lol.

Hi Margaret,

Yes, this is him, his wife and 3 daughters. Curiously, the boys Manoel (4yr) & Jose (abt. 1yr) are not on here although they are on the SS Bellrock passenger list. 

His wife's name on all records shows Maria da Conceição but on their marriage record it shows Maria da Gloria. This family is very confusing because Manoel's father's name is Boaventura de Medeiros, however, I have another Boaventura de Medeiros MANTEIGA in my tree. Although Boaventura is not a common name, these two managed to marry 2 women with the same name, which is also an uncommon name. I have a Boaventura de Medeiros Manteiga married to a Joanna Candida and a Boaventura de Medeiros married to a Joanna Candida. Both Boaventuras are 6 years apart. Maria da Conceição and Maria da Gloria both have the same parents José d'Oliveira Zangão and Joanna Emilia. It would make sense that Manoel de Medeiros Manteiga would be the son of Boaventura de Medeiros Manteiga but he is not, he is the son of Boaventura de Medeiros. As of yet, I have not found a Manoel that belongs to Boaventura de Medeiros Manteiga. If I do and if he is born at about the same time as this Manoel, I will have to revisit this because I am basing all this on Manoel's baptismal record and his marriage record.
