Hi

My great grand parents were married in Rio de janerio brazil.  They are originally from Santa miguel lomba.  How do I find out this information and there marriage certificate.  Is there a way to find out if my grandmother ever went to brazil also.

Hi Suzanne,

Genealogy needs 3 things: A name, dates, and places. I see no name or dates above. As for "Santa Miguel Lomba," no such place exists in the Azores. Maybe you can look at your notes or the source of "Santa Miguel Lomba" and post again.
Thanks,

Hi Suzanne,
Your last post referred to a Maria da Conceição of Santa Barbara in the council of Ribeira Grande on São Miguel island. Santa Barbara has been digitized and uploaded up to the year 1905. You can see those records here: https://tombo.pt/f/rbg12

For Maria's marriage that occurred after 1911 (21 Oct 1912), you need to write to the Civil Registry of Ribeira Grande.
Right now, I'm getting that blocked page thing that happens with the Azores government website from time to time. Hopefully it will clear up and you can email them.

Thank you cheri.
Do you know how I would get any information about there marriage in brazil?  Also wondering how long they might have been there also?

Hi Suzanne,

This list is about the Azores, so I have no idea about Brazil. We have some Brazilians on this list, so maybe they know. Isabela Baltar has a research blog too:

Suzanne,  I had to verify a church record in Brazil and I found if I went to Family Search I could find the records there.  and was able to find what I was looking for.  They had copied the records like they did in the Acores.

There was a Maria da Paixão, 17 years old, single, a Portuguese from São Miguel island that arrived in Rio on 30 Nov 1879.  This is from this database: https://bases.an.gov.br/rv/Menu_Externo/.  A PDF image is attached.

I found this baptism 17 years prior for Maria, daughter of Antonio Furtado and Margarida Isabel.  This matches the age for the Maria da Paixão that arrived in Rio in 1879 and the parent's names for her that you provided in your screenshot of the João Luís Tavares Silva tree from Genenet.

Ancestry has a massive collection of Rio de Janeiro marriage records (1870–2012). FamilySearch has them too, but due to Brazil’s data protection laws, many records—even those over 100 years old—are currently locked and inaccessible to the public.

Hi, Suzanne!

How are you? I live in Brazil, and I am also researching my family history. "Furtado" and "Costa" are some of the surnames I have been researching on.

Have you taken a DNA test? I have a GEDMatch kit, if you want to compare.

Do you speak Portuguese? I could point you out to some Facebook groups on genealogy from this region.

Hi Cintia,
Are you on Ancestry (as Christy Santos)? I share 43cm with her.
And what is your Gedmatch number please?
Thank you
Regards Mark

Hey Mark, Mary Andrews, I have 49 DNA matches on Ancestry to Santos last name, and this is my Gedcom number (FG1443893) . I don't know how to look up names on ged, still trying to get started on learning the DNA matches. Can you see if we have any matches? Thanks

Hi Mary,
Thank you for your message.
I’ve checked both Ancestry and Gedmatch and as far as I can see we don’t have any shared DNA unfortunately.
I’m not that hot on Gedmatch but here is my number just in case:

PK6619975.

Thank you
Regards Mark
