Do I do that $59 plus free prime shipping through Amazon?  I already did my husband’s DNA on FTDNA .. he is not Portuguese so would like to see Ancestry results also.

I got two emails from FTDNA - one was for an mtFull upgrade for $99, but that doesn't show up on their page when I click the link - it does show up for the $139 you mention, Cheri. 

I assume the first email was a mistake, since I can't find that price anywhere.

Is it worth upgrading, and will it give any more information than the FamilyFinder already has?

I've been getting the message that FTDNA is down for maintenance. The $99 was a new deal, perhaps? When I find out, I will post here.

The mtDNA is different than the Family Finder test. The mtDNA traces your mother's mother's mother's line - all women all the way back. Mitochondria mutate very, very slowly. Once the mtDNA database reaches critical mass, about half of the matches will be within a genealogical time frame (or so is the current thinking). So you can test, get your haplogroup, the cute little video, and then play wait and see.

FamilyFinder covers ALL lines, back about 200 years from the birth of the testee. Most people now get lots of matches that they are able to work.

Sometimes you can play the mtDNA and the Family Finder off of each other.

Thanks for that clarification, Cheri.  Eitehr way, it sounds like it would be worth doing for the money.   I'll wait and see if it shows up on upgrades, or whether I'd need to do the other offer

If one has never tested any part of their mtDNA, the sale price is $139.

If one has tested mtDNA Basic or mtDNA Plus, the UPGRADE sale price is $99.

All prices in U.S. Dollars.

Ah, that explains it.  I assumed that I got the email because I had done the FamilyFinder, which I guess isn't eligible. 

At least it makes sense now!
