I have two records for Francisco Martins Coelho: his baptism and marriage records. Both have notes in the margin. Could you please read the margins notes and let me know what they are saying?

Marriage is on the right side of the page. He is marrying Maria de Sao Jose

Baptism is on the top left side of the page. He is the son of Manuel Martins Coelho and Joana da Sao Jose

Thank you for you help. Doreen Caetano

Doreen,

baptism: Em 5 de Novembro de 1772 passei certidao deste termos por me ser pedido.  Borges 1741-1714=27

[per request I’v issued certification of this record was issued on November 5th 1772. Borges]

Subtraction note resulting in 27 is the priests calculation to determine his age at marriage.

[This is part of the marriage record.  Because of the bleeding at the top of page, the priest re-wrote on the side their names, date of marriage and that blessings were not given due to it being during the impeded time.  Below he write … ja lhos dei as bencoes…[blessings already give on May 4th 1742]

Very interesting. So what date do I used for the marriage? I guess the first one since there may be a child born in 9 months. Thank you. Doreen

Yes, I would also use Dec 4 as it does look like his number 4 but not as clear.

Through my research I’ve learned that when a wedding was not performed during the “Ordinary cycle” of the liturgic year and fell within a “Feast cycle” i.e. Christmas and Easter, certain functions were performed after the Feast days were over.  They usually wrote “forbidden [tempo proibido] or impeded times [tempo impedido] ”
