Hi Ana,

The best genealogy software is the one you like best.

Legacy Family Tree has a tree trial version. Go to www.legacyfamilytree.com and download their free edition and play around with it.

RootsMagic has a free trial version called Essentials. Go to www.rootsmagic.com/essentials and download it and play around with it.

Both are having holiday sales, so buy the one that grabs you.

Family Tree Maker does NOT have a free version. You can look at the web site though: https://www.mackiev.com/ftm/

I believe those are the 3 most popular for Windows at this time.

I use a free version of Ahnenblatt, it's simple enough for me, I use the portable version on my usb pen drive: https://www.ahnenblatt.com/download/

Hi Ana,

It depends. Look at the software web sites for Family Tree Maker, Legacy Family Tree, and RootsMagic and see which software works with which site. They all advertise that information. I don't know off the top of my head. Then pick the one that works with your favorite site(s).
